Eating in the Mountains

At the beginning of February I spent a wonderful week in the French Alpes, snowboarding in La Plagne. There were blue skies everyday, lots of sun, aching bodies and LOTS to eat and drink.

Here are a couple of the highlights:

Hamburger Savoyade – soft bun, medium rare burger, tartiflette style mix of potato, onion cream and bacon and topped with a generous wedge of reblochon cheese. With chips. And lots of bread. All accompanied by a couple of glasses of white wine to make me snowboard that little bit faster!

We had a lovely meal out on the Wednesday night, the night off for the chalet hosts, at a place I used to frequent when I lived in the resort (I was a Thompson Ski rep for a winter season a few years ago, fun times!) – La Cloche. We had fondue, raclette and plates of charcuterie but I was having so much fun I forgot to take many photos! I’ve found a blogger who was clever enough to take photos and blog the experience.

My dad hit the jackpot with pudding, choosing the dessert selection with coffee. A pretty plate of four mini desserts was served to him, complete with a flaming creme brulee! I was very jealous but negotiated a taste. Rich, thick and dark chocolate pot, a couple of chocolate and pistachio petit macarons, a refreshing kilner jar full of a tropical fruit salad and creamy creme brulee. Really lovely.
